Alan has been a Director in our Courts Department since November 2018. He has an interest in child law, family law, Social Work referrals adoptions, mental health and guardianship law. Alan frequently acts as Safeguarder and Curator ad Litem to children in Sheriff Court and Children’s Hearings cases, and as Safeguarder to adults with incapacity. He also has a wide and varied family law practice with an emphasis on residence, relocation and contact disputes. Alan trained in criminal law but now specialises in civil cases. In January 2022 Alan was appointed as a Legal Convener of Mental Health Tribunals.
Away from the office, Alan enjoys many distractions such as watching football, playing tennis, hillwalking, travel, movies and playing bass guitar.
