Festive Contact – Plan Early, Give yourself time to relax

At Hill and Robb we help many parents navigate arrangements for contact with their children over Christmas and Hogmanay.

Planning for Christmas is often as exciting as the big day itself. With the rush of Christmas shopping, getting the food and drink in and finding time to enjoy yourself at the office party, low down the list of priorities will be speaking to your lawyer about access arrangements over the festive holidays.

It is a time when a lot of difficulties arise about access to children. Sadly all too often arrangements are left too late and it causes disputes.

You want to spend your well-earned time off relaxing.

It is an emotive time of year when we all wish to be as close to, and spend as much time with, our loved ones as we possibly can. With children there usually has to be some give and take. Sometimes parents have worked that out and it works best for the children, but often it needs experienced family law solicitors to help you work out how to achieve what is best for you and for the children.

We have seen many inventive approaches over the years so that young children, and not so young children, can enjoy magical times with their family at Christmas or Hogmanay.

If you find that you can’t reach agreement, and need a bit of help with how you spend time with your children over the festive holidays, do not delay until the last minute and get talking before the Christmas rush starts!
